2011 Autumn/Winter Trends – Women

1940's

The atmosphere is elegant, feminine and confident. This time the designers (Marc Jacobs , Miu Miu , Gucci ) reinvented the style of 40's. Coats up to the ankles, the most simple silk blouses, dresses and straight pencil skirts covering the knees.

Spots

From polkas to full-on spots, fashion has gone dotty for Autumn/Winter 2011. You could even say that spots were the new stripes!

Androgyny

Mens tuxedo styles, smart tailoring and clean lines. Time to borrow from the boys!

Pleats

Can be worn softly or with an edge, they’re a style that might seem ever-green – but don’t let that fool you. Pleats are at the fore in 2011 with the cut being carried effortlessly from spring in autumn / fall.

Fetish

This look is not for the faint-hearted - with latex, PVC and leather playing a starring role in the trend. Embrace the subtler side of this trend with suggestive sheer inserts, leather panels and black lace.

Fur

It’s a fabric that divides people through its controversy, yet this fabric (be it real or faux) keeps coming back.

Accessories

If you’re looking to make a statement with your accessories, one that you can carry over from 2011 into 2012, then be sure to turn to the accessory that has more than caught our eye. It’s the solid jewellery trend and it includes everything from cuffs to collars.

Spicy tones

Golden shades of citrine, ochre and turmeric are bounding forward this season. They may not be the easiest of hues but they're no canary yellow so fear not. They have depth, subtlety and suit blondes as well as brunettes surprisingly well. The key is to add intensity with berry accents of rich garnet and claret red topped off with amber jewels and gold hardware for added heat.

Autumn/Winter 2011 Trends - Men

Suits

One predominant trend was the tailored suit as inspired by silhouettes of the 1970s and early 1980s. Many collections feature tight-fitting jackets with wider lapels and more double-breasted versions, while shoulders will tend to be narrower and accentuate the natural shape of the torso. The cut of trousers will contribute to this flattering elongation of the male shape by resorting to a lower waist line that extends the dimensions of the hips, whereas fabric will be tight at the thighs and slightly flared below the knee.

Workwear

Casual streetwear turns to industry in autumn 2011 with a different take on fashionable workwear seeing the likes of overalls and boiler suits hit the catwalks of fashion forward designers and the wardrobes of fashion forward men. Not a look for the faint hearted!

External Pockets

The men’s external pockets trend is something of a statement feature for autumn 2011. A feature suited to more then just outerwear.
