Womenswear Spring 2007
Summer 2007 sees womenswear moving further away from the clutter of too much decoration and moving towards simpler approach to dressing. Clean classics are revisited showing an elegant side. light, airy fabrics point to a gorgeously feminine summer There is also a gentler theme emerging especially evident in soft jersey tops, romantic dresses and the use of antique or attention to detail culminates in craft-based pieces There's a focus on colour and, while looks are not over-pretty, floral touches add flourish to simple silhouettes.
Whichever look suits you best, simplicity is key. Make a simple single statement and it’s sure to be a lasting one.
Big is best
This is a great, wearable everyday look. Softly sculpted shapes, smart layers and a palette of pink, mauve and putty are the required elements for this summer's casual chic Layer up in various shades of one colour. Silks, washed cotton, and super-soft jersey drape well. Trousers are wide-legged and slouchy, perfect for balancing out hips. Always finish off the look with the right necklace. Wedge sandals complete the look.
Yellow is the colour
Yellow will be seen everywhere this summer. This isn’t an easy colour to wear top to toe so opt for smaller pieces such ac vests or accessories. Mustard is also a softer version of the yellow and works better with most skin tones.
DIY fashion
Look for garments with detailed embroidery, appliqué all of which make up this hot trend for summer. Don’t go head to toe in detail opt for simple details such as appliquéd pockets. This is a fresh individual look. Team with jeans or linens for a smart/casual look for summer.
Metallics
Metallics will still dominate the rails this summer. Replace the sequins of last season with more shimmery fabrics. A shimmering shift is an instant classic. Dress up with black for the evening and wear with denim and wedges for a more dressed down feel.
Fancy Florals
From bold prints to full blooms, vibrant flowers adorn clothes this summer. This is one look that everyone can try. Simple floral dresses are good day-to-night option. Wear with sandals during the day and wear with dramatic accessories and high wedges in the evening. Smaller florals are more forgiving whilst bold blooms make a statement. Keep colours tonal and pick out one of the print colours in your accessories.
Historical Romance
A romantic look with lots of lace and hand made fabrics all layered together. Key items include clean shift dresses, A-line dresses and tops, full skirts, ruffled or clean-cut cropped jackets. Team this look with jeans to give it a more modern edge.
Khaki
Inspired by the colours and patterns of nature, this is a safari look that will suit everyone. Natural earthy tones feature heavily such as khaki, brown, beige, and cream. Key items include cut-away jackets, double layered vests, blurred camouflage prints. Keep this look tonal and classic. All the earthy tones work well together and don’t be afraid to experiment.
Monochrome
This is one look that just won’t go away. This summer we see a more playful, feminine take on this everlasting trend. Look for vibrant prints in black and white and team with black or white simple bottoms. Look for floral and graphic black and white prints and remember that smaller prints are more flattering.
Accessories
Although the clothes are bright, airy and soft the accessories take a dramatic edge this summer.
Large bags are still here and make a statement to any overall look. To coincide with the handcrafted DIY look we see the return of charms and tassels. Accessorize your bag not just yourself. It's all in the detail: tassels, charms and gems are a sweet touch. Wedges make a comeback (as they usually do in summer) but bigger and bolder than before.
- White: from crisp white to soft ivory. The white palette crosses all trends and key items. Be careful when selecting white pieces as some fabrics don’t look good in white
- Neutrals: sophisticated cool blue greys and pearly taupes to warmer yellow and soft corals.
- Greys: the new neutral for summer from softest pearl grey to stormy anthracite.
- Blues: from pastel to deep and bright.
- Browns: tone on tone. Brown is a staple colour that works well on most skin tones.
- Tropical exotics: deep reds, orange, purple and brown fade into neutrals.
Menswear Spring 2007
Over the last few seasons, menswear has been driven by simple items such as the T-shirt, the blazer and frayed jeans (we all remember the look well). This look has served its purpose but summer 2007 is the time for a more “complete” look for menswear. Like womenswear this means more coordination, and buying garments that have multiple uses instead of buying one garment to create a look.
Workwear
Influences come from work wear and unadorned military. Trousers are functional with pocket details and the western jacket returns in lots of different fabrics. Colours are inspired by work wear such as dark navy, greyed neutrals. This is a versatile look that can be worn with jeans as a simple smart/casual everyday look
The Player
Patterns are mixed, such as combinations of summer paisleys and bold checks. Cheesecloth and prints from the 70s appear. Looks are all crinkled and crushed in muted colours. This is a predominantly casual look that can be dressed up in the evening with a smart blazer.
Riviera dressing
This look is classy and sophisticated. Crisp, clean and well turned out menswear that makes a statement about the wearer. Fabrics are refined such as pressed cotton, linen and silk blends. The blazer, the preppy cardigan and polo shirt are all key items. Don’t go overboard with this look as it could all look too much ‘en masse’.
Rock star
Inspiration for this look comes from mods, electro and other cult trends. Graphic colours and patterns feature heavily. Narrow ties and braces with details such as knife-pleated trousers and small or extra large buttons feature. The obvious black, white and red are important colours. This is a young look that can be worn day or night.
- White: pale tints and alternative whites are strong colours this summer
- Work-wear tones: dark navy and greyed neutrals
- Sandy neutrals: sophisticated desert like, plaster and sand-hued neutrals
- Browns: shades from chocolate to golden and tobacco-tinted mid-tones. These colours work well on most people.
- Rainbow: pale translucent shades
- All the blues: Always a staple menswear colour! From petrol and aqua tones to brights and softer lavender tones.
- Cool greys: different tones of this colour work well together.
